The Galway Shawl has been part of the Irish culture since the 1800s and there are many stories linked to its history.
The Galway Shawl - designed by Mary Flaherty - has already been chosen by the Irish Government to present dignatories visiting Aras an Uachtarán.
While the shawl was traditionally worn by the women of the Claddagh as a warm wrap, it is more likely to be used today as a cosy throw to drape over a sofa, as a blanket for picnics or as a bed cover.
